What I do
The kind of work I am typically doing and where I can add the most value.
Sooo, in case it wasn’t obvious, I’m Les!
I’ve been writing code professionally for close to a decade, in that time I’ve had the chance to work on some exciting projects with some wonderful clients.
2018 - now : Mr Les
After five years running an agency I came to realise that it wasn’t quite what I imagined it would be! My enthusiasm for development, learning and exploring new technologies far exceeded that of running a business and all that comes with it. So it was time for a new adventure!
I am now working remotely and developing predominantly with React and more recently React Native as this is the work I am most interested in doing. However I will consider WordPress projects if they are particularly exciting!
2013 - 2018 : OBL/QUE
In 2013 I met Neil and after working on several projects together OBL/QUE was born, a brand and digital design agency based in Leeds that specialised in the finance and architecture sectors.
As co-founder and technical partner my responsibilities were understandably pretty broad. This included steering the direction of our company, ensuring the quality of the work that came out of the studio met our high standards, meeting and pitching to stakeholders and company owners as well as managing, motivating and developing our team, which grew to six full time staff. And of course building products for our clients!
Some of the key lessons I learned in this time were commercial awareness, explaining technical concepts to people with varying degrees of expertise, the benefits of standardisation and automating of development processes as well as the importance of good project management and communication!
2010 - 2013 : Freelance
I began my career as a developer working from 3 Mills Studios on projects for musicians, TV personalities and charities. Starting out with no formal training or agency exposure was definitely a baptism by fire.
I took any and every project I could get my hands on and when I wasn’t working I was reading and watching as much material on front end development as I could. Constant learning was the hallmark of my first few years.
