What I do

The kind of work I am typically doing and where I can add the most value.

About me

Sooo, in case it wasn’t obvious, I’m Les!

I’ve been writing code professionally for over a decade, in that time I’ve had the chance to work on some exciting projects with some wonderful clients.

2018 - now : Mr Les

After five years running an agency I came to realise that it wasn’t quite what I imagined it would be! My enthusiasm for development, learning and exploring new technologies far exceeded that of running a business and all that comes with it. So it was time for a new adventure, I am now contracting and freelancing as a Digital Nomad.

2013 - 2018 : OBL/QUE

In 2013 I met Neil and after working on several projects together Oblique Studio was born. Oblique was a brand and digital design agency based in Leeds and specialising in the finance and architecture sectors.

As co-founder and technical partner my responsibilities were understandably pretty broad. This included steering the direction of our company, ensuring the quality of the work met our high standards and pitching for new clients. It also included managing, motivating and developing our team of six full time staff. And of course building products for our clients!

Some of the key lessons I learned in this time were commercial awareness, explaining technical concepts to people with varying degrees of expertise, standardisation and automation of development processes as well as the importance of good project management and communication.

2010 - 2013 : Freelance

I began my career as a developer working from 3 Mills Studios on projects for musicians, TV personalities and charities. Starting out as a self-taught developer with no formal training or agency exposure was definitely a baptism by fire.

I took on any and every project I could get my hands on and when I wasn’t working I was studying as much material on front-end development as possible. Constant learning was the hallmark of my first few years.
